Fall of Porcupine - Review: Skip!

Well, I wasn't exactly holding my breath for this one, but even my low expectations couldn't prepare me for the rough ride, ' Fall of Porcupine: Last Days of Summer.' I decided to give the demo a try out of sheer curiosity and the fact that it was free, and boy, was I let down. But let's dive into the nitty gritty, shall we?

Fall of Porcupine is a narrative adventure game set in the small town of Porcupine. Players take on the role of a doctor and must diagnose and treat patients in minigames while also exploring the town and uncovering its secrets. The game tackles work and daily life themes within an unhealthy healthcare system. Currently, the free demo is out, but the official release date is unknown.

Pros

  • If there's one thing this game got right, it's the visuals. The aesthetics are top-notch, and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. In terms of eye candy, this game is a real masterpiece. The character design is also top-notch, with each character looking adorable, well-drawn, and pleasing to the eye.

Cons

  • First and foremost, the constant vibration is seriously off-putting, and there's no way to turn it off in the settings... that is, if you can even access the settings. And speaking of the settings, there's no way to save your game either. So basically, you're stuck in this never-ending loop of vibration and gameplay with no pause button in sight.

  • The loading screens in this game are a real killer. They take forever and really throw off the rhythm of the gameplay. And if you want to do any exploring in the hospital, get ready to be constantly interrupted by loading screens every time you leave a room. Fingers crossed that this is a temporary bug, not a permanent issue.

  • I hate the mini-games. They're like Twister, but with just your hands and a lot more uncomfortable. And to top it off, they're way too complicated. There's no real logic to them; it's just a bunch of unnecessary fluff masquerading as puzzle games.

  • The searching aspect of this game is just kind of there, but it's pretty much useless. There's nothing to search for, and all you end up with are comments about what you're seeing rather than any real insight into the story. It's a bit of a letdown.

  • The dialogue in this game is way too long, and I skipped most of it to get through it. Plus, the choices you make in the dialogue don't really impact the game, so it just feels kind of pointless.

  • To top it off, the audio is pretty much useless. There's some vague background music and the sound of chirping birds on repeat, but it just gets tiresome. All in all, it's a bit of an annoying and unengaging experience.

Fall of Porcupine: Last Days of Summer may have some impressive aesthetics and cute characters, but the gameplay is seriously lacking. From the never-ending vibration to the pointless mini-games and never-ending dialogue, it's a real drag. All in all, this game is a bit of a dud, and we suggest giving it a hard pass. Better luck next time, Porcupine.

Total Game Time: NA (it’s a demo), however I did play for about 2 hours while taking quite a few breaks. I couldn’t stay focused.
