My Little Dog Adventure Review: Longing for Nintendo to return

I've felt a wave of nostalgia lately, particularly after coming across screenshots of Nintendogs. As a longtime owner of both the game and a real-life dog (for over 18 years), I was feeling a desire for some furry companionship and decided to check out the Nintendo eShop to see what was new.

In My Little Dog Adventure, you take on the role of a small dog exploring the world as it tries to return home. The game is a brief, emotionally-engaging journey with an engaging story and endearing characters that will keep you invested.

Pros

  • Storyline: The plot is straightforward and uncomplicated, making it a soothing and comfortable game to play for a short period of time. The game's simplicity allows players to easily follow along with the story.

  • Gameplay: Players are able to traverse through different environments, experiencing the game both as a human and a dog (as the perspective changes) without any time constraints or obstacles. The only goal is to navigate from one diamond marker to the next, gradually making your way back home.

  • Exploration: The game features a variety of environments as you walk through the woods and allows players to easily wander off the beaten path to explore their surroundings.

Cons

  • Audio: The game's music and audio design are not particularly impressive. The balance is off, and the music feels like it could have been taken from a low-quality 80s film.

  • Graphics: There is a problem with the lighting on walls and doors at the start of the game, which can be quite blinding. Based on what I've seen online, the graphics is a common source of dissatisfaction among players. While I acknowledge that they can be a bit inconsistent and repetitive, I don't believe that they greatly impact the gameplay experience. The developers have tried to create a 360-degree perspective world, and I appreciate that effort.

  • Loading Screen: Please let me know if I'm the only one experiencing excessively long loading screens.

  • Price: The cost of the game is a bit steep compared to its overall quality. If it's on sale, then it may be worth it. Otherwise, it's best to add it to your wishlist and wait for a price drop.

I believe that the game is slightly too simplistic for its current pricing. Though it was entertaining and had a relaxing ambiance, I expected the graphic elements to be more varied and less reminiscent of 2010 graphics.

Total Gaming Time: 2 hours
