Disappointed by The Stillness of the Wind: A Farm Sim Fan’s Reflection.

I really wanted to love The Stillness of the Wind, but unfortunately, it just didn't keep my attention. As a fan of farm-simulation games and point-and-click gameplay, I thought this game would be a perfect fit for me. Although the story was quite moving, the gameplay just wasn't up to par.

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled deep in the countryside, there was a woman named Talma. As the years passed, one by one, all of her friends and family left for the bright lights and promise of the city. But Talma, now in her later years, chose to remain behind in the quiet of the village. She tended to her homestead, living a simple and solitary life. But as she grew older, strange and unsettling letters began to arrive from her loved ones in the city. They told tales of loss and hardship, and Talma couldn't help but wonder if she had made the right choice in staying behind.

But despite the heartache and uncertainty, Talma refused to leave her home and the way of life she had always known. She would face the trials of life and loss head-on, determined to make the most of the time she had left.

Pros

  • Story: It's quite unique and different from what you might expect. It delves into a region that is not often represented in video games, allowing players to explore a different culture and way of life. Through letters, you learn of Talma's family and how they were slowly swallowed by the city while Talma struggles to keep her farm alive. It's a melancholic story of slow human time that touches on themes of love, life, loss, and loneliness.

  • Relaxing: The game offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere that makes for a great way to unwind at home. It’s easy to pick up and play for a couple of hours, making it a perfect option for relaxation.

  • Visuals: The atmospheric visuals are stunning, like watching a painting come to life. The autumnal colors and weather-beaten environments truly bring the game to life

Cons

  • Point-and-click: This function is frustrating, especially when playing on the Switch. The camera keeps moving, making it difficult to accurately aim for something.

  • Tutorial: The game mechanics can be a bit tough to understand, as there is no tutorial to explain them. This means that players have to figure out the mechanics on their own, which can be a bit tricky.

  • Replayability: It’s limited. Once you’ve seen and done everything, there isn’t any hidden mystery to uncover, so it’s likely you won’t be playing it multiple times.

  • Game: I wouldn’t really qualify this as a game but rather an interactive story.

All in all, The Stillness of the Wind is a visually stunning game to play, but one I regret buying. I recommend skipping this one if you’re in a more fast-paced game. This game was a tad too poetic and profound for me taste. If you want to switch genre, I would recommend trying out The Children of Silentown, it will keep you busy much longer.
